چکیده
This study investigated the action of 5-HT receptor antagonists on cell proliferation in the dentate gyrus of adult rats. Three 1A antagonists (NAN-190, p-MPPI and WAY-100635) all produced a statistically significant |30% reduction in the number of BrdUimmunoreactive cells in the dentate gyrus. This suggests that 5-HT receptor activity is important during naturally occurring cell 1A proliferation in the dentate gyrus, and perhaps neurogenesis, and is one of the many factors involved in its regulation. 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. Repeated administration of cannabinoid receptor agonist and antagonist impairs short and long term plasticity of rat’s dentate gyrus in vivo
Introduction: The effects of cannabinoids (CBs) on synaptic plasticity of hippocampal dentate gyrus neurons have been shown in numerous studies. However, the effect of repeated exposure to cannabinoids on hippocampal function is not fully understood. In this study, using field potential recording, we investigated the effect of repeated administration of the nonselective CB receptor agonist WIN5...

The dentate gyrus continues to produce granule neurons throughout life. Mossy fibers, the axons of granule neurons, undergo atypical sprouting in both clinical and experimental mesial temporal lobe epilepsy. Mossy fiber sprouting (MFS) has been hypothesized to underlie the network reorganization that is thought to produce spontaneously recurring seizures, possibly via the formation of new recur...
متن کاملAntidepressant and anxiolytic potential of the multimodal antidepressant vortioxetine (Lu AA21004) assessed by behavioural and neurogenesis outcomes in mice
Vortioxetine (Lu AA21004) is an investigational novel antidepressant with multimodal activity that functions as a 5-HT3, 5-HT7 and 5-HT(1D) receptor antagonist, 5-HT(1B) receptor partial agonist, 5-HT(1A) receptor agonist and inhibitor of the 5-HT transporter in vitro. Here we explore its anxiolytic and antidepressant potential in adult mice. Vortioxetine was assessed in BalB/cJ@RJ mice using t...

متن کاملExercise-induced neuronal effects and the 5-HT3 receptor
Fourteen subtypes of the serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) receptor have been delineated, and these subtypes are assigned to seven 5-HT receptor subfamilies (5-HT1-7). Among the 5-HT receptor subfamilies, the 5-HT type 3 (5-HT3) receptor is the only ionotropic receptor. Previous studies have reported abundant expression of the 5-HT3 receptor in the hippocampus, and the involvement in the mo...
